Ever have one of those days where you wake up craving something in particular?
Something that you know is going to bring you all sorts of pleasure and comfort and enjoyment?
Back when I was just plain ol’ vegan I’d wake up craving certain ethnic foods like Thai food…
(Ummm..any other Pad See Ew fans out there!? Loved that stuff.)
And of course, if you’ve read any of my other stuff, you know that I also craved FRENCH FRIES and other potato goodies like basically all the time.
But at this point in my raw food journey, those kinds of cravings never happen anymore…
And instead what I wake up craving is JUICE!
So today I gave myself a Liquid Only day…and it’s been so amazing.
I feel refreshed, renewed and totally alive again.
Here’s what I’ve had so far today at it’s around 8:30 pm so there will definitely be some more juiciness before I go to bed:
3 quarts of filtered water
1 quart of Chocolate Bliss
12 oz fresh Carrot Orange juice from Jamba Juice
2 oz fresh wheatgrass from Jamba Juice
16 oz Maqui Berry Grapefruit Kombucha by Honest Kombucha
Coming up before bed: BOLGA Juice! Beet, orange, lemon, ginger apple. So delish.
Liquid abundance!!
I’ve had well over a gallon of liquids today…which is awesome.
Most of us are severely dehydrated and sometimes don’t even get a quart of liquids in a day…
So any time I’m doing a liquid only day, I make sure to drink at least a gallon with all the combined liquids I’m drinking.
Why Is It Good To Do A Liquid Only Day?
Well, the more solid food you eat, the more your body has to work to digest it.
It takes a lot of energy and resources for your body to break down the solid food you put in.
This is especially true with heavy cooked foods like meat, potatoes, breads and pastas…but it’s even true for raw food.
A lot of raw foodies enjoy eating nuts as part of their meals…and even though they’re raw, they require more energy to break down than if you were to have some raw food juice.
So by reserving a day for drinking only liquids and fresh juice during the day, you’re giving your body a well-deserved break from having to work so hard to process and digest all the food you’ve been putting in.
And if you strain your juice after it’s out of the juicer, like I do, then you get even more of a break for your body because any fiber that managed to find its way out of the juicer into your juice gets caught in the paint strainer bag.
This way, you get to drink nice thin juice without any fiber and your intestines don’t require moving that fiber through your system. Intestinal Vacation!
Liquid only days are amazing and very healing. The important thing is that you keep drinking all day long and not let yourself get hungry or thirsty. There’s no need to feel deprived if you’re doing a Liquid Only day.
Another day I’ll write a post all about how to set yourself up for a great raw liquid only day…
But for now…
Are you ready to celebrate your liquid intake for the day?
Use the comments section below and tell me about the liquids you drank today!
Whatever amount of fresh raw liquids you drank – including water – I wanna hear about it!
And if you had soda, caffeinated tea, coffee, alcohol or any other drinks that aren’t raw, write them down too!
It’s important to be aware of whatever liquids we’re putting in our bodies.
Only when we’re aware of what we’re doing can we consciously make new choices…
And you know me…I’m all about consciousness and awareness!
And guess what? I’m all about zero judgment too.
So if you’re ready to start healing your life, write down the stuff you drank today even if it wasn’t raw. You gotta start where you are…that’s why I’m here.
So…what did you drink today? (And even if you’re not reading this on the day I wrote it, write down what you drank on the day you’re reading it!)

I drank TONS of water (I didn’t count how many glasses though…), plus lots of yummy green smoothie: spinach, broccoli, banana, peach, flax and pineapple.
@Becki: You go girl!! I just got some pineapple tonight so I can make some delicious juice with it tomorrow. Your recipe sounds really tasty! Hooray for drinking all the water too. Your body is happy and hydrated!!
We just had a big glass of carrot-apple-celery-spinach-beet juice tonight! Though the juice color was dark, the flavor was light and sweet! Beets, carrots and apples are all naturally sugary, after all! The green celery and spinach toned it down a bit! I should have taken a picture of it because as the foam rose to the top of my big pitcher of juice, it was different shades of green, orange and pink! It reminded me of rainbow sherbet! Maybe I’ll call it rainbow juice!!
Rainbow Juice….yes!!! It’s so cool to see the beautiful colors as it comes out in the bowl before it gets mixed up together. You’re awesome! And guess what!? Your body is so HAPPY that gave it that super special juice. Yay!
Can you make a link with a recipe to your Chocolate bliss you had earlier in the day?
Oh boy! I’ll definitely make a separate post all about Chocolate Bliss. It’s amazing!! Thanks for letting me know you’re interested in it. I mean, it has the word chocolate in it…so who can blame ya!?
I have not done a juice feast yet but intend to soon. Thanks for the reminder! By the way, where did you get your Honest Kombucha? I have not been able to find it lately since WholeFoods pulled it from their shelves because of the minuscule alcohol content issue.
Hi Julia! I actually found this Kombucha at a Whole Foods in Wheaton, IL…suburbs of Chicago. It was not with the other teas and Kombuchas. It was in its own little glass case with a door by the check out stands. Call some Whole Foods by you and ask if they have some! The cashier also told me that California Whole Foods have had the other GT’s Kombucha for 3 weeks now! So hopefully it’s going to spread back into all the stores so we can all enjoy. xoxo
I’m inspired to have a liquid day tomorrow. I can manage that as I have no outside appointments. Today I started with 2 glasses of water followed by a quart of carrot/orange/apple/chard juice. Later I had an herbal tea. This afternoon I had a carrot/apple/orange/celery juice at a friend’s house. Writing this reminds me that I haven’t had any water since this morning so I’ll go drink a couple of glasses of water. Tonight when I get home, if I’m hungry, I’ll have another juice and some water before retiring. Thanks for asking!
@Mary – Hooray for having a Liquid Day! It’s really nice to do it on a day when you can stay home and enjoy and not have to run around like crazy. So good thinking!
Carrot Orange Apple Chard juice sounds DELISH!
And then to mix it up and have celery instead of the chard in the other batch…nice!
And remember, Sunday the 12th is International Juice Feasting day…which means another awesome day for LIQUIDS ONLY! Woo hoo!
